July 17th, 2018 - The Elite League wrapped up its season Monday night with the semifinal and championship games. The Concrete Donkeys handled the Convicts in their semifinal along with a Greg Leahy shutout, while the Hollywood Dream, playing ironman, held on against a hard late push by DC Bohemia to advance.

The Dream, playing ironman for the second straight game, carried a 3-1 lead deep into the third period of the championship game, but the Donkeys clawed back, scoring twice in the final three minutes, with the tying goal coming with just 56 seconds left.

The two teams went to overtime and traded chances the entire three minutes, until Mike Haring of the Dream scored on a 2 on 1 rush with just one second left in the overtime frame to win it by a final score of 4-3 (OT).

MVP: Greg Leahy played in, and won, all three games in net.

Crimson Dogs Win Spring 2018 Tuesday Rec Championship

July 3, 2018 - On the eve of our nation's birthday, the Crimson Dogs and Concrete Donkeys waged a battle of attrition in pursuit of the Spring 2018 Tuesday Rec title. With only four skaters and a goalie a side, the two teams fought through one of the hottest and most humid nights of the summer iron man style.

The Concrete Donkeys took an early 1-0 lead, but the Crimson Dogs didn't back down and quickly responded to tie the game. Led by veteran captain and founding team member Steve Kulinski, the Dogs continued to chase the Donkeys around the rink and found the back of the net three more times for a final score of 4-2 to give the Crimson Dogs their first Tuesday Rec championship in 20 years.

AIHA Transitions to ARHL

Friends of Alexandria Inline Hockey Association -

As many of you are likely aware, the future of hockey at Raue Pond has been uncertain over the last few years. After Alexandria Inline Hockey Association (AIHA) founder Bill Raue moved to England, he faced the realities of trying to run a hockey league from 2,000 miles away and nearly shut down AIHA for good about two years ago due to the challenges of this arrangement.  In an effort to preserve roller hockey at Raue Pond, a group of longtime AIHA players (Alex Silverman, Ben Malakoff, Ethan McAfee, and Jared Elder) offered to help Bill manage the day-to-day operations of the organization in return for not shutting down AIHA. With the support of the Sunday and Thursday league commissioners (Josh Barnette and Greg Spinelli respectively), we have been able to stabilize the organization and are now excited to announce a plan that will ensure roller hockey continues at Raue Pond for the foreseeable future.

Over the last year we have been closely working with Bill Raue, Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS), and DC Street Hockey (DCSH) to put in place an agreement that will allow for the rink and leagues to continue without disruption. To this end, ARHL now holds a formal long term lease with exclusive rights to operate roller hockey leagues at Raue Pond. This is just the first step of many towards fulfilling ARHL’s mission:

To continue to offer competitive roller hockey at an affordable price, while preserving the culture of Raue Pond, reinvesting in the rink infrastructure, and ultimately improving the overall playing experience.

Finally, we want to take a moment to thank Bill for founding and dedicating years to building AIHA, and for creating this unique community that has become a sanctuary or second home to so many of us. We appreciate having his full support throughout the transition process, and wish him the best of luck on his new endeavors.

We are excited that roller hockey is here to stay for many years to come, and look forward to turning the page on a new chapter in the history of Raue Pond with all of you.
