COVID-19 Return to Play Plan

As ARHL returns to play we recognize the following:

  1. Not all players will be ready to return at the same time.

  2. COVID-19 is still a serious public health threat and will continue to be until a vaccine  or other effective therapeutics are widely available.

With this in mind, resuming normal league activities as soon as we are allowed to do so will not be possible. However, we also recognize that many ARHL players are eager to return to play and are willing to accept the associated risk of doing so. It is our goal to allow those who do wish to play the ability to do so while minimizing the chances of contracting or spreading COVID-19 during league activities. To this end, we will be making several changes to how the league operates for the near future.

While ARHL will do what it can to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19 during league activities, the responsibility ultimately falls on those who do wish to return to ensure they are not infected and spreading it within our league by practicing good personal hygiene and adhering to ARHL policies while at the rink.

Phase 1 Operations and Policies

During Phase 1 of reopening ARHL will hold regularly scheduled 2 hour pick-up games in place of regular league games. To control the number of players at the rink at any given pick-up players will be required to register online in advance of the slot and games will be capped at 20 skaters (4 skaters + 6 subs per side) and 2 goalies.

Upon arrival at the rink, players will be required to check-in with the Commissioner on duty and have their temperature taken with a contactless thermometer.  Any players who arrive at the rink and did not register in advance, or are determined to have a temperature above 99.5 degrees Fahrenheit will not be allowed to play and asked to leave.

During this phase we will also ask players to:

  • Wear masks in the parking lot

  • Get changed at your car, or at least 6 feet away from others

  • Avoid spitting on or around the rink

  • Install full plastic face shields on their helmets (Strongly encouraged, but not required. If not installed, we strongly encourage you to wear a light cloth covering over your mouth.)

  • Bring their own water and do not share with others

  • Bring a folding chair to use as your "bench"

  • Not to come to the rink if they feel at all sick

  • Not to come to the rink if they think they have been exposed to the coronavirus

  • Not to come to the rink if they or anyone in their household has tested positive for COVID-19

In addition, if you test positive for COVID-19 we ask that you report it to ARHL Management via a confidential reporting form on the website as soon as possible so we can quickly identify and notify other individuals who attended the same session(s) as you. Your identity would remain confidential. Other players would only be notified that they recently played with someone who tested positive so that they can self-quarantine and/or get tested themselves.  While we can not legally require this, if you do not report this you are putting your fellow players at risk of infection and potentially unknowingly spreading it to their family and friends.

In addition to the above mentioned precautionary measures, ARHL will implement the following measures:

  • Remove shared benches
  • Enforce social distancing measures for those not actively playing
  • Make hand sanitizer available during all league sponsored activities

  • Tailgating in the parking lot before and after games will be prohibited

  • Handshake lines will no longer be permitted after games

  • Use a contactless thermometer to check the temperature of players during check-in

As we continue to monitor the situation, adjustments and/or additions may be made to these policies and procedures.

Phase 2 Operations

If and when conditions improve and allow for it, ARHL will return to regular league play while maintaining some or all of the previously mentioned precautionary measures.

Phase 3 Operations

ARHL will only be able to fully resume normal operations once a vaccine is widely available.
