The Co-Ed 2018 Summer Championship came down to a well fought battle between the ironman Nanooks and the one-sub Fire Ants.
The Nanooks scored first with a goal by Jim “Jimbo” Schimpf. The Fire Ants quickly answered back with a goal by Evan Muelenaer to lock it up 1-1.
In the second period, the Nanooks began adding offensive pressure, taking the lead and adding an insurance goal, des=spite the admirable play of Charles “Chuckie” Fritter in net.
Phillip “Phil” DaCunha and Jennifer Prophet of the Nanooks caused the Fire Ants quite a bit of trouble trying to get the ball out of their zone as their back checking skills and offensive prowess were on full display in the second and the third periods.
The Fire Ants started to push a third skater up on offense more often. Jimbo and Matthew “Pudge” Richard helped out their goalie with excellent defense.
The offensive pressure of the Fire Ants in the third would also put the defensive skills of Joe Koenig and Greg Spinelli to the test as the Nanooks ended up with more odd man breaks. By the end of the third period, the Nanooks had added 2 more goals. Jimbo finished the night with a hat trick and Pudge and Phil each had a goal as the Nanooks won the championship by a final score of 5-1.
